Guest Editorial

The 51 papers in this special section on electrical machines have been divided into seven subtopics: theory, modeling, and simulation; design; losses, efficiency, mechanical and thermal analysis; diagnosis, fault detection, and monitoring; high-speed machines; linear machines; and electrical drives and control techniques. Most of the papers published in this special section come from the 2008 International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM), held in Vilamoura, Portugal.
