| Abstract: | Existing models for the solute redistribution during solidification have been reviewed. Some typical models are applied for the numerical simulation of heat and mass transfer with phase change under experimental condition of inverse casting. The results show that the effect of micro mass transfer models on the formation of the new phase cannot be omitted. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
