| Abstract: | In this paper optimum design of frames is discussed. Specifically, minimum weight design of steel frames in the elastic range of material behaviour is treated. The solution algorithm is designed and programmed for use on micro-computers to suit a design office environment. Stress and slenderness constraints are considered, however displacement constraints may readily be implemented. Three examples are given and the results are discussed. |
