Four Inlet Channels Guaranteeing Energy Safety

Energy security and reliable supply is the important foundation of a national economic and social long-term stable and rapid development. China’s oil external dependence has already increased from 32% to 57%, 80% of imports go through the Malacca strait, risk of marine transportation increases, energy security situation is very grim. Therefore, for ensuring national energy security it is very important to seek a new energy import channel actively, to promote strategic channel construction of oil and gas import, to realize the oil and gas inlet channel diversification. 10 years, our country’s energy security pattern changes greatly, has set up three energy import channel in the northeast, northwest, southwest respectively. In the direction of northeast crude oil pipeline of China and Russia has been put into use; in the northwest, the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline has been went into operation in 2009, China - central Asian gas pipeline A and B line have been put into use, C line is under construction. In the southwest direction, China-Burma oil and gas pipelines is nervously constructing, which will be completed in June next year. So land three big channels and Marine shipping channel form the Chinese oil and gas imports four strategic channels. It can not be denied that this pattern is very important to realize the diversification of oil and gas in our country, and to guarantee our country’s energy security. But we must also be aware that China’s current seemingly perfect oil and gas import channel still exists defect and worry. Along with sustainable development of our country economic and continuous improving of the living standards, the dependence level of foreign oil and gas will continue to improve. Can four large oil and gas import channels guarantee our country’s energy long-term security? How should we further develop new energy inlet channel? ... There are many constructive works and problems for us. We still have heavy responsibilities on our shoulders.
