Problems of Integrating Transportation and Inventory Decisions:A REVIEW

Integrating transportation and inventory decisions prove one of the most studied research areas in distribution system.The paper presents a review of the available literature on problems denoted as transportation-and-inventory(TAI)problems.The object of TAI is to minimize the total cost of transportation and inventory in the supply chain and determine for each time instant the retailers to be visited and the quantity to ship and the route of the vehicle under the restriction of given customer service level and given inventory and transportation condition.A classification scheme is first proposed for these problems.Then the results obtained in this area are summarized.
