Abstract: | Numerical and approximate computational techniques are presented for studying the oscillating flow in a two-dimensional channel with an irregular surface. A finite element algorithm is formed in order to evaluate the influence of the surface roughness on the basic flow characteristics, while emphasis is given to the development and variation of the shear stresses on the walls. In addition, an approximate solution is obtained when the wall roughness is small compared with the mean height of the channel. Comparison of the two methods in an appropriate range of wall roughness values gives satisfactory results. |
