The water sources of most cities in Yangtze River delta are inappropriate for drinking because of the pollutants and wastewater discharged from the upstream cities and those in the delta.The raw water from Yangtze River has become the first choice for drinking water source for its high quality and abundance.This article presents the experience obtained from Yangtze River diversion project in Taixing City,Jiangsu Province,including constructing a consolidated water supply plant,establishing a united water supply system for both urban and suburban areas,and making the old country water supply plants supply water for industrial uses.These strategies not only guarantee the safety of drinking water,but also avoid reconstruction of industrial waterworks.As a result,this project takes full advantages of the current water resources.
