Optimized Application of Spraying Systems and Approaches to Water Saving on Paper Machines

A spraying system,including shower headers and nozzles,is one of the most important parts of modern paper machines.With optimum applications of shower headers and nozzles,all felts,fabrics and rolls can be in good conditions and remain the original properties during their service life,which can finally come up with the efficient running of paper machines as well as improved paper quality.At the same time,water saving for paper manufacturer and production cost reduction can be achieved.The first part of this paper introduces the function and theory of shower headers,such as flooding shower,lubricating shower,chemical shower and high pressure shower,and some operation parameters such as spraying pressure,distance,jet angle and flow rate as well as their location in the wet,press and dryer sections are highlighted.The second part presents the available approaches to water saving,mainly focusing on the correct selection,application and maintenance of the shower headers and nozzles,as well as the utilization of the substitutional media such as clarified white water,compressed air and steam.An efficient running of paper machine and the expected environmental target can be achieved based on the measures suggested in this paper.
