Abstract:The reduced diameter PANDA type PMF used for high precision gyro belongs to stress-induced PMF. The characteristics and development process of the reduced diameter PMF which is operated at 1 550 nm are described in detail. The fabricated fiber offers 3.2 mm of beat length, 26 dB(1 km) of extinction ratio, and the features of low attenuation, high strength, and stable temperature characteristic. It is a PANDA type PMF suitable for practical use and establishes a firm foundation for the engineering application of high precision gyro and associated fiber optic sensors in China.
