| Abstract: | This paper investigates the optimum plan for bringing prestress to bear on the diagonal brace in a lock miter gate. The following requirements are necessary to accomplish such an optimun plan: 1. increasing the torsonal rigidity in the gate; 2. cancelling the deflection in the gate due to its own weight; 3. decreasing the vertical displacement of the gate to minimun. |
