Abstract:Self-assembled monolayers(SAMs) of 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane(PropS-SH),dodecyl-trimethoxysilane(DTMS),(3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane(APS) and chloropropyltrimethoxysilane(CPTMS) were formed on brass surface.The corrosion resistance,hydrophobicity and structure of silane films were studied by electrochemical polarization,contact angle measurement,and Fourier transform infrared reflection(FT-IR) spectroscopy.The results indicated that the corrosion resistance of brass is improved after PropS-SH,DTMS or CPTMS silanization treatment.The corrosion resistance of PropS-SH film is the best,which can be explained as follows:the PropS-SH is chemically adsorbed to the brass surface and a silane film is formed by Si─O─Si crosslinking,thus providing an excellent barrier against the diffusion of oxygen molecules from the solution to the brass surface.The corrosion current density and inhibiting efficiency of PropS-SH silane film on brass are 0.2 μA/cm2 and 97.4%,respectively.
