| Abstract: | A simplified design method is given against instability of an externally pressurized gas journal bearing supported on rubber ‘O’ rings. The stability characteristics (onset whirl speed and whirl ratio) are derived and expressed in closed form in terms of ‘O’ ring material properties and fluid film behaviour. |
