An experimental investigation into the friction and wear characteristics of unlubricated roller bearings

Abstract:Lubricated rolling element bearings usually fail by fatigue. In the case of unlubricated rolling element bearings failure is due to wear of the rolling elements and cage. As the amount of wear increases so the friction torque of the bearing increases until catastrophic failure occurs and the bearing seizes.
