Effects of Night-break Time on the Delay of Flowering in Sugarcane

The aim of this research was to discuss the effect of night-break time treatment on flowering of sugarcane in different strains. Experiments of different time of night-break were conducted to study the effects of night-break on sugarcane＇s flowering in 2009 and 2010. The results showed that, under the condition of night-break for 26 days, fixed light shining for 40 days with light intensity of 100 Lx, additional light shining at 0：00-1：00, the initial flowering date was delayed for 13 days. But, under the condition of night-break for 33 days, fixed light shining for 33 days with light intensity of 100 Lx, additional light shining at 0：00-1：00 and at 0：00-2：00, HoCP93- 746 and CP85-1491 failed to flower, and other clones delayed their flowering for 26 days and 40 days respectively. The more the nighttime shining was, the more the flowering delay would. This research would provide technical support and theoretical basis for sugarcane germplasm innovation and cross fuzz production.
