A Survey and Pathogen Detection of Sugarcane Ratoon Stunting Disease in Gengma

Abstract:Ratoon stunting disease (RSD) which cause tremendous damage to sugarcane production is an important sugarcane disease around the world. The key to control epidemic of the RSD and to promote disease- free seedings treated with warm water is to investigate the occurrence and distribution of RSD. In this study, 97 sugarcane samples were collected from fields in Gengma county of Yunnan province and then tested by PCR and I-ELISA. The results showed that of the tested 97 samples, 73 samples (75.26%) were RSD positive, confirming the presence of RSD in Gengma. More systematic analysis of RSD occurrence in different cultivars of different seasons and regions provided important information for controlling RSD effectively and amplifying size of disease-free seedings in Gengma.
