Abstract:In order to meet the requirements of the edge UPF with lightweight,low cost and flexible deployment for the vertical industry in 5G network,it is necessary to promote N4 interface decoupling and lightweight UPF.First,the UPF functions are simplified and classified,the graded capacity and performance requirements are proposed.Then the implementation models and procedures of N4 interface are introduced,the requirements of lightweight UPF functions and N4 interface decoupling technologies are clarified to effectively guide the product development of UPF and accelerate the industry maturity.Finally,this article discusses the typical deployment patterns of lightweight UPF with N4 interface decoupling.It is hoped that promoting N4 interface decoupling facilitates UPF in a more open and flexible direction,and creates an open and prosperous 5G edge ecology.
