MINICOLD 21TM COLD ROLLING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

Minicold 21-A flexible concept for cold rolling value added flats. For the efficient production of cold rolled, galvanized, and color-coated flat products, Danieli Wean United has developed the so-called "Minicold 21". In its simplest form, this production complex consists of a push-pull pickling line, a one-or two-stand reversing cold rolling mill, batch annealing, a temper mill, and a hot dip galvanizing line with the possibility of in-line color coating. This paper discusses the technical features of the plant and analyses its economic benefits based on the estimated capital investment requirements and transformation costs as well as the market price for the output product. The analysis demonstrates that under most conditions a cold rolling complex of approximately 500000 tons per year yields a positive economic return.
