| Abstract: | The article reviews and summarizes some advances in the research on the theory of plates and shells.The theory,called direct approach to the shell that is most popular recently,is introduced .Special attention is also paid to advantages and disadvantages when theories of plates and shells are applied in the analysis of moderately thick shells. |
