Abstract:UHMWPE was applied to modify PP in our study.PP-MAH、LLDPE、SBS were also added in the blend with the aim of further improving the toughening effect of UHMWPE on the matrix.Composites were prepared by two melt mixing processes.The mechanical characters,thermal properties,sub-microscopic morphology and crystallization behaviors were investigated.Forming a physical cross linking network in the matrix,UHMWPE could improve the impact strength of PP by transmitting and absorbing large amount of impact energy.At UHMWPE content of 30%(w),the impact strength of the blend could reach 68 J/m which is 2.5 times that of pure PP without any loss of tensile strength.As the immiscibility of UHMWPE and PP induced the phase separation,compatibilizer, especially 6%(w) of SBS,could improve it and then further enhance the impact strength of the material.
