Abstract:
The theory of “falling pond” is investigated and the stability requirements of such ponds are discussed. Based on the possible maximum temperature gradients, curves determining the regions of operation of stable falling solar ponds are presented. Also the effects of the thickness of the non-convecting layer and the bottom temperature on the stability of such ponds are discussed. Comparison between a MgCl2 and NaCl falling solar pond is made and typical profiles for concentration are presented.
