Abstract: | Studies were made of the solution of the frit during milling, the soluble salts derived from the frit were identified and studied, and some properties of the slips and mill liquors were investigated. The influence of some soluble salts present in cover-coat enamels on enamel film strength is shown, and a theory regarding the mechanism of tearing has been developed. The function of some salts, particularly sodium hydroxide and sodium nitrite, in eliminating tearing was studied, and the manner in which these salts improve film strength is reported. |
