Application of dibutyltin oxide in the regioselective synthesis of sugar derivatives

Dibutyltin oxide reacts selectively with hydroxyl groups of carbohydrates to form dibutylstannylene acetal,and polymerization of the acetal in solution enlarges the electronegative and nucleophilic difference of hydroxyl groups situated on the different locations of polymer,which accounts for selective synthesis of sugar derivatives.Hence the chemical characteristic of dibutyltin oxide is well elucidated via its application on sides of protection of adjacent hydroxyl groups of sugars containing active functional groups,regioselective bridging of carbohydrates and glycosylation,which lays foundation for this reagent to extend its application into selective synthesis of sugar derivatives.
