Abstract:Based on an approximate analysis, simple closed form solutions of stress concentration factor and stress intensity factor for three typical models of circular hole, spherical cavity, and crack in finite domains are derived respectively. Then a method of asymptotic modification, which matches the derived solution at the limit point with the exact result, is adopted to improve the accuracy especially for large hole (sphere) radius or crack length. Finally three high accuracy expressions for these finite domain problems are formulated, they either fill in the vacancy of missing solutions in the literature, or have better accuracy than several empirical solutions given in handbooks.
