Abstract: | A study of the liquid mentla embrittlement of high allowy steels The action of zinc on austenitic stainless CrNi steels at high temperatures may give rise to a type of intercrystalline corrosion called “soldering brittleness” (liquid metal embrittlement) which can be attributed to the formation of a low melting phase rich in nickel. These phenomena have been known for a long time in connection with other metals and alloys and have been described by several authors. As to liquid metal embrittlement of high alloy steel, however, no data have been available so far. |
