Because of all ploymers communicate with their surroundings via thier surfaces,the delineation of the initial interaction of a polymeric system with the environment requiers a knowledge of the changes in structure and bonding initiated in the outermost few tens of angstroms of the samples.The article details the advances in X-ray photoelectron spectrcopy(XPS)applied to surface degradation of polymers.
