Abstract:The investigations on surface self nano-crystallization (SSNC) of metals and alloys induced by severe plastic deformation (SPD) are reviewed in this paper. They includ the methods/processes and equipments for preparing SSNC induced by SPD, the microstructure and characterization of the SSNCed layer, and mechanisms and applications of SSNC induced by SPD. Expectations of future research and relative applications of SSNC induced by SPD are also discussed.
