| Abstract: | Taking "Manifesto of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings" drafted by William Morris in 1877 as its primary target, this paper is engaging on a close reading on the subject of how to protect the ancient buildings. It opens up the rather diverse viewpoints of the main participants in the Victorian society on this matter. And through a re-understanding of what Morris had meant in his "Anti-Scrape" action, this paper ends with a reference to the current condition of China. |
