USA's Global Infrared Detecting Equipment: Advancement, Architecture Analysis and Capability Prediction

Infrared detection and tracking systems are playing important roles in the current US ballistic missile defense system. To further improve the ballistic missile defense system, USA has been developing new generation infrared systems and technologies for its ballistic missile defense system in recent years. These systems and technologies include the space high-orbit infrared early warning system, the space tracking and surveillance system, the airborne infrared detection system and the infrared imaging seeker for kinetic energy interceptors. They will form a global infrared detection equipment system containing space high-orbit early warning, space low-orbit all-the-way tracking, airborne boost phase and ascent phase tracking and missile-borne tracking and seeking. New advances in US infrared systems and technologies for ballistic missile defense in recent years are presented. The architecture of its global infrared detection equipment system is analyzed. The capability of its future infrared detection equipment for ballistic missile defense is predicted.
