Transient heat transfer in air saturated porous media in a short cylinder

The rate of heat transfer occurring in a fluid saturated porous media contained in a short cylinder has been experimentally studied. The experiments considered the situations of heating and cooling the porous bed from an initially uniform temperature to the imposed boundary temperature to steady-state. A modified Rayleigh and a modified absolute Nusselt number were used to correlate the experimental results. Comparison was made to a finite difference simulation.
