Abstract: | Differential equations representing the equilibrium of circular plates subjected to symmetric lateral loading are presented in which both bending and membrane forces are taken into account. Three types of edge conditions are considered together with uniform, disc and ring loading conditions. The equations are solved numerically using a finite-difference technique. As deflections increase, it is shown how the solutions tend to those given by the membrane problem in which bending effects are ignored. The general membrane problem is also treated numerically and a series solution developed for the uniformly loaded case. |
