Abstract: | Methods for the quantitative determination of chlorine and sulfur contents in wood and wood-based panels are described. In both cases a modified flask combustion according to Schöniger was carried out before the actual determination. Chlorine and sulfur contents of different wood, bark, wood particle and particleboard samples are recorded. The influence of natural weathering on the sulfur content of solid wood is discussed. The calculation of hardener content (ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate) in particleboards from chlorine and sulfur contents respectively is subjected to a critical evaluation. |
