Abstract: | Differential thermal and X-ray diffraction analyses are used to study the phase equilibria in the ternary NaF-LiF-LaF3 system. A ternary eutectic and two peritectics are found. The solid eutectic mixture whose melting temperature is 580°C consists of NaLaF4 chemical compound crystallites and individual lithium and sodium fluorides (LiF, NaF). Above the melting point, LaF 6 3? complex anions form in the melt at 590–750°C. |
