Abstract: | A Mössbauer resonance study of the CaTiO3-Ca2Fe2O5 system - i.e. the Ca2Fe2xTi2?2xO6?x solid solution (0?x?1) - shows a continuous evolution of the local iron environment over the entire composition range. For 0.50?x?1 the investigation confirms a previous structural model of alterning layers of octahedra and tetrahedra. For lower concentrations of oxygen vacancies, evidence is given of Fe3+ ions randomly distributed in octahedral and even in tetrahedral sites. Titanium atoms apparently have only octahedral surroundings. A long range order is detected when . |
