Therefore, interest is now turning to numerous light-valve technologies where resolution and brightnes are independent, in that the image writing is, performed using an, electron beam or laser beam while the image brigtness is provided by a projetion lamp. In the areas of numerous light-valve technologies, the most active area is in laser and electro-beam-addressed liquid crystal projection displays, the paper will review the fundamental principles and operational characteristics of many liquid crystal light-valves.
