Research on Measurement of Luminance Distribution Using a Digital Cameras

This paper describes a method for approximate scene photometry measurement from field based on digital cameras and computer software.The method involves recording the luminance of fields in scenes using a luminance meter at the time images are captured by digital cameras.An empiric formula is developed describing the relationship between the luminance and the color record in the image.The methodology,robustness and limitations of the technique are set out.The average residual of estimate is 0 124 cd/m 2,and the standard error of estimate is 3 24 cd/m 2.The technique will have a bright future in application.
