Abstract: | Oxidation of five Cu–Zn alloys at 1,073 K in 0.1 MPa O2 showed the existence of three possible oxidation modes, including the internal oxidation of zinc beneath external CuO x scales, the growth of mixtures of the two oxides and the exclusive growth of external ZnO scales. The critical Zn contents required for the transitions between these oxidation modes have been calculated and compared with the experimental results. |
