Abstract:La-Mg-Ni hydrogen storage alloys of metal hydride-nickel battery for automobile with different precursor LaNi5/LaMgNi4molar ratio(x)were prepared by powder sintering method,the effects of x on phase composition,microstructure and electrochemical performance of the alloys were studied.The hydrogen storage alloy consisted of(La,Mg)5Ni19and(La,Mg)2Ni7phases when x=0.75 and 0.95,(La,Mg)5Ni19single phase when x=1.20,(La,Mg)5Ni19and LaNi5phases when x=1.50.All hydrogen storage alloys had good activation properties,with the increase of x,the maximum discharge capacity Qmax decreased gradually,the capacity retention rate at the 100th cycle S100 first decreased and then increased.When x=1.20,the S100 was minimum,the polarization resistance Rp was maximum and the exchange current I0 was minimum.The hydrogen diffusion coefficient D value of hydrogen storage alloys from large to small order was x=1.50,0.95,1.20 and 0.75.The appropriate(La,Mg)2Ni7and LaNi5 phases was helpful for the hydrogen storage to improve the rate capability,the discharge rate of electrode was positively correlated with D.
