Abstract:In this paper, the progress of EAF steelmaking technique is reviewed with the point of view of system optimization. It is indicated that the steelmaking process is one kind of process system. The concept of process system and system optimization is explained simply. Based on the observations that system and environment compose a larger system, the influence of raw materials,energy supply, products,cost,investment on the development of EAF steelmaking is discussed. At system and subsystem hierarchy, the characteristic, structure and typical configurations of EAF steel plant are presented,and the structure in series and the production on scale are emphasized. As to EAF process-the unit process, some progresses in UHP-EAF such as power level, DANARC,IAFTM, DC-EAF,the shaft furnace(Fuchs) and the twin-shell EAF, etc, are involved.
