Symmetry As Geometry: Kuwait International Airport
Authors:Kristoffer Josefsson
Abstract:Computer-aided design (CAD) software has often been associated with the limitations of Euclidean geometry. Kristoffer Josefsson , a mathematician and specialist geometer employed in the Specialist Modelling Group (SMG) at Foster + Partners, explains how the symmetry-encoded representation undertaken for Kuwait International Airport enabled the group to extend CAD tools for non-Euclidean use.
Keywords:Felix Klein's Erlangen programme  Bernhard Riemann  Albert Einstein  computer-aided design (CAD) systems  boundary representation (BREP)  Autodesk® T-Splines®  Robert McNeel & Associates' Rhinoceros® software  Foster + Partners  triple rotational symmetry  D3.
