59TH STREET RESIDENCE DOWNERS GROVE, IL

We imagine this project as a contemporary response to the Sears Roebuck catalog homes of the last century, many of which still exist in Downers Grove. Downers Grove is a suburb located southwest of Chicago. The site is relatively level with several mature locust and pine trees surrounding the existing house and the detached garage. Beyond the rear property line are several undeveloped plots of land that are heavily wooded and afford privacy and a view from the rear of the house. The lot fronts on a local street and the YMCA and Junior High School are located directly across the street. Neighboring houses flank both sides of the lot. The project is an addition and remodel to an existing 1950s single family dwelling. New program includes kitchen, family room, master bedroom, and bath, study, and patio.
