Preparation of High Solid Content Waterborne Polyurethane Modified by Epoxy Resin

A series of waterborne polyurethane(WPU)emulsions modified epoxy resin were synthesized using polycaprolactone diol(PCL),polypropylene glycol(PPG),hexamethylene diisocyanate(HDI),isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI),epoxy resin E51,dimethylolpropionic acid(DMPA),1,6-hexanediol(HDO),and 2-[(2-aminoethyl)amino]-ethanesulfonic acid monosodium salt(A-95)as main raw materials.The effect of the amount of epoxy resin E51 on the properties of WPU was studied by FT-IR,DSC and mechanical test.The results showed that the epoxy resin was introduced into the molecular chain of waterborne polyurethane,and the solid content of WPU emulsion modified epoxy resin E51 could reach 41%~54%.When the dosage of E51 was 6%,the emulsion storage stability was the best,the tensile strength of the film reached 8.55 MPa,and the elongation at break was 734%.The introduction of epoxy resin E51 increased the tensile strength of the film and significantly improved water resistance.
