Abstract: | Conclusion During low-temperature (550°C) impregnation with nitrogen, thin intercrystalline films (precipitates) form in transformer steel (Fe+3% Si).These precipitates are not crystalline. On the basis of experimental data obtained with the use of fractographic and electron diffraction microscope methods they are classified as amorphous.Low-temperature amorphous precipitates are not stable and on heating (e.g., 1 min at 970°C) they are converted to crystalline precipitates (hexagonal nitride -Si3N4). The chemical composition of the precipitates does not change.Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy.
