| Abstract: | Maintained licking and bar pressing in 48 male hooded rats by intermittent water reinforcement. Shock punishment was delivered for either a reinforced or nonreinforced lick or bar-press response. Punishment suppressed licking more than bar pressing. Pairing punishment with reinforcement had little effect on overall response suppression. In Exp. II with 18 Ss, Ss punished for the 1st lick after a reinforced bar press showed more response suppression than Ss punished for the reinforced bar press. Results support R.
