Abstract: | In Israel the phosphate industry produces amongst other products, defluorinated phosphate. The rock is heated to more than 1400°C with additions of phosphoric acid, soda ash, silica and steam. Occasionally not all the fluorine volatilises from the phosphate rock. It was proved statistically that the volatilisation of fluorine was incomplete whenever the concentration of zinc in the product (and presumably therefore the raw material) was relatively high. Experiments in the laboratory simulating the industrial process confirmed this. |
