| Abstract: | It is demonstrated that Gbit/s digitally modulated, voltage controlled singlemode multiple quantum well semiconductor lasers with an intracavity saturable absorber show reduced spectral broadening compared to conventional high contrast modulation schemes. The intracavity loss modulated laser linewidth is also calculated using experimentally determined voltage and intensity dependence of absorption in MQW modulators and excellent agreement with experiment is found.<> |
