Abstract:The behavior of titanium oxide precipitation in titanium containing medium carbon steel was analyzed according to thermodynamic analysis. The results show that when the pouring temperature is (1535±10)℃ and the dissolved oxygen content in the steel is greater than 0003 mass%, the dissolved Ti in the low-titanium medium carbon steel can react with the dissolved oxygen in the steel to form Ti3O5 and Ti2O3, and the possibility of generating TiO2 and TiO inclusions is small. The dissolved Ti in the high titanium medium carbon steel can react with the dissolved oxygen to form Ti3O5, Ti2O3, TiO2 and TiO. Meanwhile, the dissolved Ti in the steel can reduce the SiO2, MnO, Cr2O3 inclusions in the steel and generate TiO2 inclusions. TiC, TiN, TiS and Ti4C2S2 inclusions will not be generated in low-titanium medium carbon steel. TiN and Ti4C2S2 inclusions may be generated in high-titanium medium carbon steel. For low titanium medium carbon steel, by controlling lower dissolved oxygen content (<0.002 mass%) and for high titanium medium carbon steel, by controlling lower dissolved oxygen content (<0.0007 mass%) and less Cr2O3, MnO and SiO2 inclusions can effectively inhibit the formation of high melting point titanium inclusions in titanium medium carbon steel, and realize low cost titanium alloying and related continuous casting process development of medium carbon steel.
