Abstract:A two dimensional transient mathematical model of electroslag remelting(ESR) process was established by using FLUENT software. The finite volume method was used to solve the coupled equations of electromagnetic field, momentum and energy conservation. The solidification process of ingot was treated by the enthalpy porous medium model. The multi field coupling behavior and solidification parameters of GH984G superalloy during ESR process were systematically studied. The results show that the current density, magnetic induction, Lorentz force and Joule heat increase with the current increases from 2.3kA to 2.5kA. And then, the slag flow velocity increases, the temperature of slag bath and metal pool increases, and the metal pool deepens. As a result, the primary and secondary dendrite arm spacing and the relative Rayleigh number of ingot increase correspondingly, and the tendency of freckles formation also increases. The calculated values are in good agreement with the measured values.
