Abstract:
The beam induced quench of a superconducting solenoid was studied to estimate the effect of the energy deposition due to the high energy proton beam. The solenoid was directly exposed to 12 GeV proton beam with a typical beam duration time of 250 ms. The experimental results were compared with the MPZ/Cold-End energy calculation and a computer simulation solving the thermal equation. They can be well reproduced by the simulation result with reasonable parameters.
