Abstract: | Summary Permeable, relatively strong, highly refractory material with a porosity of 30–60% and about 98% MgO was produced from magnesia.By varying the grain sizes of the aggregate, the ratio of aggregate and bond, the amount and grading of the combustible, it is possible to regulate the properties of the porous goods over wide limits.Porous periclase refractories have a high refractoriness, gas permeability and low thermal conductivity, and can be used as heat insulation at high temperatures if not subject to heavy loads and sharp changes in temperature; they are suitable for use as filters in aggressive conditions where a basic highly refractory material is needed. |
