3-D Modeling and Simulation of Mold Filling and Solidification by Direct Finite Difference Method

Abstract:Finite difference equations are derived based on the direct finite difference method for solving fluid flow will free surface and heat transfer. Owing to the complex shape of many castings, three dimensional analysis has been considered to simulate the mold filling accurately. The simulation method which this paper present can treat the filling of mold with free surface hased on the irregular element meshing. These finite difference equations and method with free surface treatment are applicable to mold filling of complicated shapes and boundary conditions.
